Osun Girls Can Code
About
The Osun Girls Can Code Initiative successfully equipped STEM 60 female teachers and 300 high school girls with essential programming skills through a comprehensive 5-day training program in the 6 educational districts across the State. This initiative also included mentoring sessions aimed at cascading these newfound skills throughout the community. The culmination of the project was a statewide competition involving both private and public schools, engaging participants in applying their knowledge and creativity in real-world scenarios.
The overarching objective of the initiative was to address the gender gap in STEM fields within Osun State, fostering a higher education potential in STEM-related disciplines among young women. By empowering these girls and female teachers as solution providers in a tech-driven economy, the project aimed to instill confidence and competence right from the school level. Through collaborative efforts, the initiative contributed to bridging the gender divide in STEM and paving the way for a more inclusive and dynamic workforce in the region.
